About Emma

Emma Kate Barnett - Online and Tele Counselling Services Australia

Emma Kate Barnett

Emma has delivered more than 15,000 sessions across two decades, developing extensive experience in psychotherapeutic assessment and counselling. She works primarily from a psychodynamic perspective, helping clients deepen their understanding of their inner world and relational patterns. Where helpful, she integrates other therapeutic approaches to meet individual needs.

Her background includes over a decade supporting tradespeople and their families within the commercial construction industry. This work gave her valuable insight into the mental health challenges faced in that environment and continues to inform her grounded and relational approach to care. She is also known for her readiness to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams when necessary, showcasing her commitment to comprehensive care.

Emma has recently completed two years of advanced training in Object Relations Theory in the United States. This specialised training supports her progression toward psychoanalytic candidacy and reflects her strong commitment to depth-oriented therapy and lifelong professional development.

With diverse experience in group therapy facilitation, training, and education on issues that impact mental health, Emma is well-equipped to support individuals facing a wide range of challenges. She brings a rich history of education and professional practice, including research and application of group art therapy for young people at risk. In addition, she specialises in critical incident response following workplace injury or fatality, offering crisis intervention and psychological first aid with sensitivity and professionalism.

Individuals or couples seeking therapy with Emma can expect a professional, integrity-driven approach. Her work is characterised by empathy, confidence, and a sensitive yet direct style of engagement. Emma’s therapeutic approach is multi-faceted, integrative, and tailored — ensuring clients receive comprehensive care that is effective and respectful of their boundaries and capacity for change.
